You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following few steps. First, locate a clear work surface to begin the process. Lay out all the tools you will need. Then, locate the battery's hatch and then open it with a flathead, a coin, or another similar tool. Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting up on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to shield the electronic contact surfaces.

After the battery is removed, place the new one in its socket. Ensure that the positive side of the battery is facing upwards and that all clips are in place. Slide the cover toward the key-ring until it becomes loose and it falls off. Then, remove the cover to reveal the hidden key blade. Install a new battery in its place, and join the fob.

Note: Some older Volvos use a different type of battery, the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have a thickness of 7 tenths one millimeter less than CR2032, so you'll need to be very careful when replacing your battery.
